HippoDuck Trouble at the Airport
by Sandra Magura , Gaston Hauviller
Reviewed by: John L. Hoh, Jr.
HippoDuck are two stuffed animals sewn together. Hippo is outgoing and loves adventure while Duck is shy. Sewn together they have to deal with each other.
They go on a journey with their child, Charlotte, and her parents. Of course being technically inanimate objects they have to go through the x-ray machine just like suitcases and carry-ons. While on the conveyor, while they are in the machine, the conveyor stops. A suitcase falls on Duck's wing. HippoDuck try to get the suitcase off but cannot. The conveyor also suddenly starts up again.
At the end of the conveyor they realize Duck's wing is caught in the zipper of the suitcase. As they try freeing Duck's wing, the suitcase owner takes the suitcase oblivious to the wing that is caught. HippoDuck get free while the suitcase is being carried and they are suddenly lost.
How can HippoDuck find Charlotte? Where will they find Charlotte? Follow their journey as they travel the airport looking for Charlotte.

What a wonderful book! HippoDuck was a hit in my second grade class
BySusan L. Doris June 29, 2015
What a wonderful book! HippoDuck was a hit in my second grade classroom - as all the children could relate to this story! We were lucky enough to have the author, Sandra Magura come visit our school, and she read her story and introduced "HippoDuck" to all the kindergarten, first and second grade children. We are all hoping that there are a lot more adventures for HippoDuck to take - this would make a great series!

What a fun story! This author visited our school and shared this book with grades K-5. Not only was each grade able to excitedly attend to the story, but they all had their own version of "getting lost" so they were able to relate to the characters. We are all waiting for HippoDuck's next adventure!
Great story for kids of all ages!

I am an elementary school librarian and Sandra Magura came to read her book at my school. Ms. Magura read to the students from the first to fourth grades. I watched my students become captivated by Sandra's story telling ability. After the presentation, the responses I received from the students included; "Awesome", "Thumbs up", "Funny", "Hilarious", "I identified with it". Another elementary teach said she "Loved the sequencing" of the story. I think you will get a kick out it.

Cute story/illustrations

Our three kids (ages 7,5,3) all enjoyed this story and it's cute pictures. It was so sweet to see all of them in complete suspense- "Where is Charlotte, Mom?! When will they find her?!!" When we closed the book and asked the kids what they thought, our oldest said, "I like how it teaches children about how to use a Lost and Found." :) Perfect book purchase for reading aloud to your kids, or in preparation for a trip to the airport!

HippoDuck is a wonderful little story that demonstrates the need for friendship and security, and how two little characters, very much unlike each other, bravely experience the unexpected with positive results. The illustrations are as fun and cheerful as the text, a joy to read and easy for children to relate to. Cheers to Sandra for more of these children's books. Linda
Nice adventure for young kids

Lovely book focusing on the affection the stuffed animals have for their human friend. The author does a nice job of providing the point of view of HippoDuck as the pair experiences the new environment of the airport. The suspense in the story is just the right amount to keep young readers interested. The warm and inviting illustrations convey the action nicely. The book itself is a nice size making the words and pictures easily accesible for group, one on one, or solo reading sessions.
This is a wonderful book!

What a fantastic story! I love the characters and the fact that they are stitched together speaks volumes for friendship, sharing, helping each other in hard times. The story line faces an issue for all children - lost but found! - in a beautifully, delicate way, bringing resolution and peace. Hooray for Sandra Magura on her first book. I hope there will be many more!
