Schools, Libraries, and Bookstores...Let me come visit you!
Author visits to schools, libraries, and bookstores help young authors to become more connected to the books they like. When children can relate to a book it stimulates their appreciation and understanding and they are more inclined to get excited about reading and writing.
Appropriate for kindergarten-third grade, this is a 30 - 40 minute interactive presentation where children learn that Real Life + Imagination = Story. Sandra shares the real life incident that inspired HippoDuck - Trouble at the Airport and shows how she used imagination to turn that event into a story. Basic fiction elements are introduced at a level appropriate for the audience. Children participate in the reading, and a Q&A session follows.
I LOVE doing school visits and talking to kids about reading and writing. My presentations are not the kind you've heard a hundred times, about being an author. I have worked hard to make my presentations educational AND entertaining, and I give them real tips they can go back and use in the classroom to help them with their writing.
Here is a taste of what you can expect from me and some tips on how to prepare your students and public for my visit.
What will I bring?
I will bring a book to display, HippoDuck the stuffed animal, a flyer or a bookmark for the kids to take home and autographing pens. For instore readings I bring an easel and a huge poster to put behind me.
I prefer if you order books directly from the publisher. You can email Raquel at Laredo Publishing at [email protected].
How should You prepare for me?
